Meet Nico, one of our inspiring customers who loves to get out and about on his own!

I have had the Hoss for several months now and we have now completed our vacation with the Hoss. We really like the Hoss! Wonderful to be able to do so much independently! My wife has to put much less effort into “moving” me than with the old push wheelchair during vacations and trips to towns and villages. No more muscle pain for her!

Also, we can now take long walks together and ride bikes, which was not possible before. What a freedom, really enjoying 😊 We have been back since yesterday from a week and a half vacation in Domburg, also with the Hoss. We also had a vacation weekend in Noordwijk and went to a big Italian market. Through soft sand the Hoss cannot go, but there are paved areas and mats on the beaches. One photo shows a decking path to the restaurant on the beach, through the soft sand, so I could also “just” get to the restaurant in the Hoss!

My municipality, a small town we just moved to, did not yet know of the existence of these balance wheelchairs and therefore wanted a conversation about my situation, wishes and (im)possibilities first. I myself did not know of the existence of balance wheelchairs until three years ago, but at a market I happened to meet someone in a balance wheelchair and that’s how the ball started rolling.

✨ “What a freedom, really enjoying 😊” - Nico

In daily life I hardly need a wheelchair to “survive”: I can (still) walk, climb stairs and also play table tennis without a wheelchair. But I can only walk small stretches. So not a larger piece of walking and certainly not cycling. I can do that with the Hoss. By the way, ‘cycling’ is also just riding with the Hoss, but in the fast mode (15 km per hour).

The Hoss can do much more for me: get to our community’s shopping center by myself without a car. On tiring days for work where I would have to walk a lot, in the Hoss instead of walking a lot. Also when I’m tired, still being able to walk our little dog. The Hoss can go perfectly over forest paths, gravel, grass (if not too high), hills, bridges up, bridges down and small sidewalks (no higher than 8 cm). Fortunately, after the interview, the community was positive and I was able to explain to them all the advantages the Hoss has over “average” wheelchairs. I got part of the Hoss reimbursed through a WMO-PGB budget, very nice.

Living is more than just ‘surviving’: the quality of our lives has really increased because of the Hoss!
