“The combination of innovative technology and really being able to make a difference for people, that’s just amazing!”
Through his activities with the Segway business in the Netherlands, Gerhard first came into contact with the balance wheelchair from Genny Mobility in 2012. He was familiar with seated Segway solutions that had been developed by users themselves — creative, but with a high DIY factor. This was the first time a professionally developed product was available: comprehensive, well thought out, and safe. The feedback from the first customers — not only about functionality but especially about experience — made it clear that this was something special. While the Segway e-step was mainly a gadget, the balance wheelchair is a distinctive aid that can truly enhance quality of life.
Soon, in addition to Genny Mobility, multiple solutions appeared on the market. This prompted Gerhard to launch the 2KERR concept in 2017: one Experience & Competence Center where knowledge and products come together, with one goal: the best match for every customer. In 2018, this was expanded with more products and services; in 2019, Team 2KERR helped more and more people regain freedom in mobility. 2020 brought COVID and uncertainty, but also creativity and new opportunities. In 2021, we became proud importer of the iBOT (electric wheelchair from the U.S.) and official representation for Europe; with this, we grew as a B2C and B2B organization.
In 2023, we moved to a new building in Hedel — a central place to continue growing. In the years that followed, our product portfolio and Team 2KERR steadily grew. A personal milestone: Koen (Gerhard's son) became a co-owner after several years in the company, securing the long-term continuity of 2KERR. We further professionalized and obtained an ISO certificate. The balance wheelchair is now widely accepted as a full-fledged aid. As pioneers, we take pride in this — but we are most proud of our customers and ambassadors. Ultimately, it’s all about one thing: making a difference for people with mobility limitations.
