The story of Jos

Despite his progressive condition, Jos remains eager to be active. He spends a lot of time behind his computer and regularly flies his drone.

Where he once enjoyed collaborating with colleagues, traveling for work, and running, he increasingly had to push his limits. Not because he wanted to, but because his body forced him to.

Through the internet, Jos first came into contact with the ibot. He read an article about someone using this remarkable balance wheelchair and immediately knew that this could be a solution for him.

"I want that ibot too because then I can do much more things on my own."

As a technically inclined person, he was particularly curious about what the ibot could do. He now uses the wheelchair daily and has regained freedom in and around his home.

Independence back in daily life

For Jos, the ibot mainly means that he can go out independently again. Where poor sidewalks, high curbs, and unpaved paths used to be obstacles, they are now challenges he confidently takes on.

"You can easily go out by yourself now. There are actually no real obstacles anymore."

He also notices the difference indoors on a daily basis. Cooking is easier again because he can work at the right height and look into the pots. During parties, he is literally at eye level with others, making conversations feel much more natural.

Especially curious

During his first test drive, Jos was mainly curious. As a technology enthusiast, he wanted to experience for himself whether the ibot could really deliver on its promises.

He quickly discovered that the chair gives a lot of confidence, but you also have to learn to trust the technology.

"What struck me immediately was that you really have to rely on the technology."

What surprised him the most? How easily the ibot moves over gravel, sand, and other challenging surfaces.

"I didn't expect driving over gravel or sand to be so easy."

A combination of WMO, PGB, and crowdfunding

The purchase of the ibot was made possible by a combination of WMO, PGB, and crowdfunding. Jos decided to prepare thoroughly and researched how to best substantiate his application.

Additionally, he set up his own website where he shared his personal story and explained what an ibot would mean for his life.

"I wanted to show how much independence this wheelchair would give me back."

Thanks to that effort, the support from his surroundings, and the contribution from the municipality, his dream ultimately became a reality.

Jos knew exactly what he wanted to do first.

Once the ibot was delivered, Jos knew exactly what he wanted to do first. He drove straight through his garden to try out all the possibilities of the balance mode and four-wheel mode.

"What the ibot is known for? Just driving through the garden on the highest setting."

Together with his wife and daughter, he enjoyed that first moment. Not only because he finally had his ibot, but also because he knew what this would mean for the future.

"I was especially happy that I finally had the freedom I had worked so long for."

Since then, Jos goes out with more confidence. Even during vacations in Germany, where he has been coming for years, he can now follow routes through the forest independently and reach places that were previously out of reach.
