"I feel less 'handicapped' and truly ride around with pride."

“My mindset has always been: I'm not broken. But I had to accept that I can no longer walk. Aids exist to conserve energy for things that give me satisfaction. Het Rughuis taught me to step over that threshold and think positively about myself again. I sought tools that could give me my life back a little. I tried everything, but because I have to be careful with strength in my arms, a regular wheelchair was not an option. It quickly led me to a mobility scooter. Although it allowed me to go outside and be among people again, it still didn't feel like the perfect solution for me.”

Fiony continues: “The image played a big role in this. I tried my best to just ignore the fact that it works so stigmatizing, but unfortunately, it does affect your self-worth and feelings. The limitation of only being able to ride on paved paths, and being big and clumsy in stores didn't really help me find my way. I missed nature, walking with my dog, and biking the most.”

“In my search for off-road wheelchairs, I came across the Bi-Go. I was sold immediately; this had to be it. Initially, I was held back by my surroundings as this seemed too ambitious, it is quite expensive, and most people can't just pay for it themselves. However, I couldn't let it go, it really felt like the Bi-Go could give me my life back and I was really convinced I could make it work.”

I always think: “Try it first before saying it can't be done!”

“After taking a test ride at 2KERR and receiving extensive explanations, I was completely convinced. It was fantastic! I immediately started the WMO application process and engaged all the aids I could find to increase my chances. I asked for support from an occupational therapist, and I first rented the Bi-Go for a week. I made a video to show that this is really different from a regular wheelchair. The balance wheelchair is so unknown that it is difficult for the municipality to assess whether it can really replace the standard offerings. I was lucky that my municipality truly listens to your story and wants to help make life as pleasant as possible. Their main goal is for you to participate in society again. And that has been successful!”

"You remain in motion without walking, which is a huge advantage.”

“I can just step onto the Bi-Go from home and ride to the village, not at a snail's pace but quickly, just like on a bike, you ride at about 18 km/h. I can almost go anywhere in stores; in small elevators, you just turn on your axis. Uneven streets, curbs, gravel, inclines, etc., are easy for the Bi-Go.

You can control the Bi-Go very precisely; after a while, it really feels like you have legs that work. Running with the dog through the woods, using the wide wheels to go to the beach, visiting cities, excursions, biking tours together, and even going to a concert is possible again. And everything without extra pain!”

Fiony says: “I've worked hard to strengthen my core; you really need that, especially if you want to maintain speed for a long time, as it really uses a lot of muscles. So, you stay in motion without walking, which is a huge advantage.”

Finally, she adds: “The Bi-Go has made me feel confident again; I sit differently on a Bi-Go than on a mobility scooter. I feel less 'handicapped', and I really ride around with pride. When you feel better about yourself, you radiate a different energy. I can no longer hide, and I don't want to. I want to tell everyone how amazing a balance wheelchair is. It's a shame that many people still don't know it exists. You get looked at a lot and approached on the street; people are really curious. There are already quite a few photos of the 2KERR sticker on my Bi-Go!”
