"I'm now almost pain-free and I no longer take any medication!"

I slept poorly, was more irritable, had less energy due to fatigue, and felt groggy all day. ‘If I want to live a good life and still have shoulders in twenty years, I need to do something now,’ I thought.”

Sjoerd had tried the Genny before. “Also a balance wheelchair, a beautifully designed device. I enjoy riding through rough terrain. However, certain parts of the chair were difficult to keep clean, and this caused problems.

Last year, I was pointed to the Freee and the Bi-Go. I tried both and chose the Bi-Go. It's the most no-nonsense version. It fits perfectly, and its robust appearance was decisive. The chair is very mechanical, so no hiccups with a loose connector. When I move forward, the chair goes forward. The same goes for moving backward. I steer with my hands, and when I’m in rest mode, I only need to pull the lever to fold the supports down. Delightfully simple, and I can just rinse off the Bi-Go after a walk in the woods with my assistance dog Offra.

It also handles hilly terrain quite well, like recently in Luxembourg, even an incredibly steep street that I could never have tackled with my manual wheelchair. So cool!”

Sjoerd has been riding in his Bi-Go since this spring. The perfect solution for him, but the municipality thought differently. “The municipality wanted to stick strictly to their policy and the Bi-Go was not included. I was told to settle for a heavy, cumbersome, and clunky electric wheelchair that barely fit in the bus and only went ten kilometers per hour. If the chair turned out not to be satisfactory after a month, I would have to get in touch again. Ridiculous, especially when talking about budget cuts! After six months, we had made no progress and resorted to the TV program Kassa.

When we knocked on the municipality's door with the camera, we received one of those standard stories, but the next day we got a call. We – my mother, the presenter without a camera, and I – were invited for a meeting with the alderman. In half an hour, the alderman concluded that the Bi-Go was indeed a total solution, for the same price or even a lower price than the electric wheelchair. I received a personal budget, including an amount for maintenance. Three weeks later, I had my Bi-Go. It has exceeded my expectations more than I could imagine. I am now almost pain-free and I no longer take any medication!”
